Dying Bettas?
Posted by: Steven Donnelly on Tue Sep 07, 2010 7:10 am
One of my Bettas, a female named molly, died the other day. I thought it was because she got stuck behind the water pump/ filter. But a few days earlier I had put her in a tank of her own as she was being bullied and loosing some fin through nipping. But I put her back after a few days and noticed she had a bit of fungus on her. Which had gone the next day. But about 4 days after molly died, her friend dolly, has gone grey and very bloated. She just sits at the bottom of the tank most of the time and just goes up for a gulp or the occasional swim. Its not her fins that are grey, its her body. About 2/3 s of her from the back. Her head and gill area is still red. I cant post a photo im afraid, my computer is still broken. She looks a bit better than yesterday, more colour, but not much. Its the bloating that has me worried. She is quite young I think. She became full grown about 6 months ago. And molly was older as she was full grown when I got her but I dont know how old. Im worried if I leave her in the tank she will infect the others. Should I take her out, or will the stress do her more harm. And any ideas what it is and can I treat it. I have 2 more females and a male who all look perfect. The male still chases her, but slowly, almost as if to say cmon have a swim round it will make you feel better, because he definately isnt trying to catch her. Just get her moving. Its a 46 gallon tank with 2 red finned sharks, 4 Guppy adults, 6 babies in a floating tank. 2 Albino corys, 15 tetras. Air pump, real plants. Ph - 7.5 ish. Ammonia 0, nitrates 0 nitrites 0.1 so it all seems good to me. All help will be appreciated as im worried I may loose all of the Bettas if I cant stop it here. Looking At her right now, her colour is definately improved but the bloating is still hughe. Help please!
